The story of the Christian Churches in Saltcoats probably goes back to the dawn of Scottish Christianity when Celtic monks came from Ireland to the West of Scotland in the 6th Century. Their influence is preserved in composite place names such as Kil - Winning meaning the 'cell' of St. Inan.

Over the centuries the Saltcoats Churches have seen innumerable changes in terms of the congregations names and constitutions. This is the natural result of the on-going interplay of politics and Christian convictions, both nationally and locally, and it therefore makes the history of the Churches a highly complex affair.

At the present time of writing, the town is served by no less than nine Churches, or Christian places of worship, and these are now presented.
